Anne Nye Selected As 2009 Featured Artist

Anne Nye has been selected as the featured artist of the 2009 Omaha Summer Arts Festival. Nye's illustration, entitled "Counterpoint," will appear on the event's promotional materials including posters, t-shirts, television commercials and web site.

Nye's work is about layers. She layers color over color and glass over glass opacity over transparency. Just as joy layers over sorrow and today over yesterday, in Nye's art patches of brilliant colors peek through darker ones like sweet secrets heard on a summer day, remembered in winter. Nye's experiences come together in each work. Brilliant background colors express the joyous freedom of her childhood Idaho summers; layered with years of work and study, loss and gain. The tactile top layer expresses the now – taking us right up to the present, which will never be here again.

Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Nye studied fine art at the University of Idaho and California College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland CA. Following that Nye worked as a graphic and fine artist in several parts of the world including Spain and Hawaii.

After years in the graphic design field, Nye finally began working full time at her art in 1997, moving into fused glass in 2000, approaching it very much like she did painting.
